I usually like this author better but this book pissed me off. I didn't mind Devlins direct and honest approach because that's what I expect from adult who know who and what they want. Javen was so wispy washy for a independent woman who goes after the career she wants but not the love and passion she desires? Really? That's just not right for a grown woman. If it weren't for her best friend Keisha telling her the truth she so needed to hear. Javen is not the strong black female that Devlin so needed and wanted. There is strength and power in submitting to someone you love and loves you back. I would have liked to see a non dramatic courtship regardless if it was love at first sight or not. This story just left me shaking my head at the heroine and wanted him to find a strong black woman not afraid to be his fully. There is no rule that says love at first sight has to have all this crap. Believe it or not, love at first sight can be mutual and exciting with both parties giving it their all.
I will be taking a break from reading any of Ms. Lee's books. If you don't mind washy washy females in your IR reading than this is for you, otherwise skip it.

I read this because a friend rec'ed it to me saying "You'll love the interactions between the two leads".

And you know what? I totally did. Ignoring the sex and BDSM, the way that Javen and Devlin interact is pure wonderful fun to read. They had the sort of conversations that people would categorize as being 'ping pong' talks. Javen would say something, Devlin would respond, Javen would challenge that response, so Devlin would challenge her challenge and it would go back and forth like that for long bouts. And I never felt as if I was bored during these conversations, rather I was amused and wondered who would win out in the end.

Also, ordinarily I would be turned off by Devlin's very aggressive nature, but he doesn't come off as creepy or desperate, but rather the sort of guy who hates to put things off. Why wait when its inevitable? He does however give Javen space and 'romance' her. Which I think is more then she deserves at first; her entire rationale made me really cranky. You either love someone or you don't. You either want to marry someone or you don't. Wanting one last fling and then wanting to go marry the guy you rejected to have that last fling? Yeah no. As Devlin says at one point, Javen has a lot of issues to work on.

In the end however, they both learn a lesson and as its a romance no one should wonder at the outcome of their romance. This is actually my first story with such a high level of BDSM in it. I've read short stories where its been present, but not to the degree it was in this one. But then, I tend to just glance over the scenes of intense eroticism so it didn't discomfort me unduly. I don't skip them completely, can't write a review if you skip large chunks of the book!, but perhaps the better phrasing is I don't spend as much concentration of those parts as I do the rest.
Before settling down Javen Manning wants to have a wild sexual fling with no strings attached. Devlin Jordan, the father of one of her students, is more than willing to offer his services. From the very first date Devlin had Javen behaving in ways that is so unlike her. A confident voluptuous full figured woman Javen isn't used to giving up control and she definitely isn't used to being sexually out of control.

Devlin is drawn to Javen the moment he set eyes on her, his initial reaction was purely sexual but he soon found himself wanting more. He wants her to submit to his sexual dominance and explore all her repressed sexual fantasies with only him.

Teacher's Pet had some good moments. Marilyn Lee can write some pretty steamy sex scenes and Javen and Devlin are hot together. These two certainly had passion but I would have liked them to get to know each other more outside of the bedroom. Also Javen is described as a full figured woman and my initial impression was that she was confident and proud of whom she is, but as the story progressed my belief in that lessened and I found it to be a disappointment. These feelings have nothing to do with being sexual submissive, it has a lot to do with conversations and actions that I felt caused character contradictions.

My feelings for Devlin are mixed. He came on pretty strong to down right rude in some instances but he never made any pretense or played games about what he wanted from Javen and I respected that. Of course there were outside elements affecting their relationship, such as Javen's aunt who has issues with her new boyfriend and Keisha the level headed best friend whom Javen is very lucky to have. Although I wasn't taken with the overall story of Teacher's Pet, it did have some great scenes I have found myself re-reading, and I'm sure fans of Ms. Lee may find more to like about it.

This story did not disappoint. I would highly recommend this story to anyone looking for a hot & steamy short read.
Loved it... I need a Devlin in my life....All Alpha without being arrogant...
This was a great read. I liked the interactions between the couple. And the hero wasn't overly alpha. He seemed realistic to me. Now the only thing I didn't like was all of the conversations she had with her friend. It just seemed like too many to me. I did like the Aunt though.
The story was a bit juvenile. The heroine showed no real emotion so when she told the hero she loved him, it was a blah moment. I felt the energy from the hero but the heroine's character fell flat. I just finished the book and already forgot her name.
I actually enjoyed this book, whih is a surprise to me. Marylin Lee's books are either a hit or a miss for me and this one has to be one of her best. I liked the story but had a major issue with the BDSM part of it... While the man in this book keeps saying he's a Dom he didn't act like it and if his purpose was to turn her into his sub he missed the mark. I've read many books with convincing BDSM themes and this is not one of those, but it is a good read.
