Once Bill makes it out of his bomb shelter, which is a feat in itself and how the story starts, he goes in search of water and also some company. He's been in the shelter for over three weeks, and it's been at least three weeks since the ground stopped shaking. Bill is getting lonely. He finds his house half falling down and in shambles.Bill wanders along outside where things are pretty dusty, and he sees a bird sitting on a rock talking in a human-like voice. Bill thought it was some people talking, but it's the bird. The bird would make perfect company and a perfect friend for Bill, so he tries to get him home and back to the shelter, but the bird has other ideas. He copies everything that Bill says, so Bill names him Copy Bird.
This is a good story, with a nice ending, or at least as nice an ending as can be in a post-apocalyptic world. It's a little shallow, and could have been filled with more storyline, but I don't think that's the author's intention. I enjoyed reading this.

Copy Bird eBook Desmond Shepherd Reviews
I've followed +B.C. Young on Google+ for a while. You need to read his work - he's a very good writer. Taut, adept and emotionally compelling work. He also makes great use of G+ to raise awareness of his work. Check it out. Definitely read _Copy Bird_. It's free to download, but it will definitely make you want to purchase the rest of his work. You'll be glad you did.
Loved this short story. Can't way to read more from this writer.
This is a very interesting post-apocalyptic short story that I found so entertaining, I couldn't stop reading it. Can't wait to read more from this author.
`Copy Bird," by B.C. Young is a short story and is quite obviously a part of a larger story. It is being used as a "teaser;" a small taste so that the reader will hopefully be interested in the story line and writing style and purchase other related stories by the author. This is okay by me. This little story is a good stand-alone and whether or not I continue matters little to me...I received a shot of reading enjoyment which is always a pleasing thing.
This is a post apocalyptic tale. Yes, I know...that has been done before, but this particular genre is ripe for innovation and a nice place to let a writer's imagination romp wild. I have to tell you that Young does indeed have the ability to put a new twist on things. The story begins quickly and the reader will be hooked on the first sentence. After three weeks of complete isolation in a bomb shelter, the protagonist in the story is forced to leave his sanctuary due to lack of planning...i.e. he did not pack away enough water. Within a couple of paragraphs our hero finds he is trapped.... maybe, in his own shelter....or is he?
Then he meets the yellow bird who speaks to him....
Being a very short story I find it is difficult to tell you more as I am not into giving away spoilers.
This little tale moves right along, follows a logical sequence, and has several little surprised in it. I can promise you that it will hold your interest.
If I were pressed to say something critical concerning this work, I would tell you that the author could use the services of a professional editor; as ALL authors do. The prose here needs some smoothing out and there were a couple of awkward bumps in the plot line. This did not distract from the story as far as I am concerned and is really no big deal. I was grateful that this work did not contain the numerous errors in grammar, punctuation and indeed, spelling you so often see in some of these products...that was nice.
All in all this is a worthwhile read...I enjoyed it and the author probably did what he set out to do...get me interested in reading more of this overall tale....and as soon as I get the time, that is exactly what I plan to do. I am giving this one five stars simply because I liked it.

Story was flat. The main character seemed really unconcerned with anything that didn't impact him directly. What were his feelings that everything he knew was gone? There was nothing to really make me care what happened to him and the situation that he stumbles upon is unrealistic without being fantastic enough to carry me along.
Good story to read on a rainy day and on a quiet day. Can`t wait to read the Author other books.
