This book was/is amazing. Brady and J.C. Were incredible. They didn’t start off in the typical way that most people beginning a relationship start. My heart broke for both of them. J.C. was always living in her sisters shadow. Never feeling like she enough. Always second best. And to be honest Brady didn’t help that case for a while. But like in real life you really can’t appreciate anything until it’s gone.Tags : A Marine for Christmas [Beth Andrews] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. I love this book. really great love story
It was an amazing book. It was romantic and intense. I would say that this a very good book to read.
Wow
I really enjoyed reading this book. Anyone that wants to know what really goes on when troops come home should really read this book. It just gives you so much in sight on what the Marine is feeling about his true love. Too see it ripped from him in a letter that was not the best way to end it. It is a great read and anyone that thinks otherwise is just lying to themself. I by passed this book a few times on here and in the store but then I really wanted to see if the author could portray the Marine. I think she got it dead on. But now I would love to see if the author comes up with another book flipping the situation around to see what the woman feels like.
Touching story.
This was a well written story. The plot development was well done and the characters were all very human. I liked that the characters all had issues to resolve and that they were all good people that just made some mistakes.
I just couldn't buy the HEA. The entire book the H repeatedly uses and hurts the h, rejects the h and their baby in a very cold, cruel manner and we only get two paragraphs of the H saying he changed his mind he'll take the h and HEA. How in the world can anyone be ok with that after all the things that he did and say to the h? It was absolutely the h fault for the choices that she makes in the story. There really is no romance in this book. There is constant rejection and in the end the H resigning himself with the h because he could not have the woman that he truly loved. The readers never see the H ever really prove his love for the h or for the baby. He never had to fight for it, apologize for his behavior or grovel for forgiveness at his callous treatment of the h. The h admitted to being happy with being with the H even if she was not the one that he wanted. I guess in a way the h got what she wanted when she said, "you don't even have to love me back". I'm sorry but that to me rings of desperation not romance. After the way the H treated her the entire book I just can't believe a complete reversal in two paragraphs. I didn't even read the epilogue in the book I just went to get my money back. I paid for a romance book and this book had none, certainly NOT a "Super Romance".
Brady Sheppard is certain that he's hit rock bottom. His tour in Afghanistan left him with a shattered leg and nightmares about the explosion that nearly took his life. The love of his life, Liz Montgomery, has married another man. He copes with the pain by staying drunk as much as possible and avoiding the people that care about him. But Brady hasn't quite hit bottom - yet. No, that happens when, drunk (as usual), he sleeps with Liz's younger sister, Jane, and Jane gets pregnant.
For possibly the first time ever, Jane ("JC") finds herself in a situation that her family can't bail her out of. In a monumental display of poor judgment, she had sex one time with her sister's ex and now she's pregnant with his child. At 26 she doesn't feel ready for motherhood, doesn't see how she'll be able to support herself and a child. Brady has made it clear that the only thing he can offer is financial support; he doesn't plan on sticking around to be a part of the baby's life. Jane loves Brady, but he can't let go of the past, can't envision a future that doesn't include loving Liz.
If you're looking for a cute, Christmas themed romance...this isn't it. It does take place during the holidays, but there's nothing light or cute about this story. These characters are refreshingly imperfect. They are human and flawed and make a mess of things. They act like real people, don't always make the right choices or have honorable motives. My kind of book - I loved it!
Yes, Brady does act like a jerk for the first half of the book, but then his conscience kicks in and he tries to pull his act together. The author does a phenomenal job of portraying him as a three dimensional character. Soldiers don't just come back from the trauma of war and slip back into their civilian lives as if nothing has changed. People don't just bounce back from wrenching break-ups without at least a foray into the land of self-pity and regrets.
And Jane? Sometimes I sympathized with her and sometimes I wanted to shake her and yell "grow up already!". But she's no doormat, and she does eventually take a hard look at her role in how things played out. Again, kudos to the author for her insightful characterization. Even Liz isn't portrayed as the "baddie" that Brady tries to make her out to be. Very nicely done.
Bottom line I thought this was a very well written story of a complicated relationship between two people who find love despite their less than ideal circumstances. I would highly recommend the book, but just be aware that these characters, especially Brady, don't fit neatly into the traditional roles of romance novel "Hero" and "heroine".
Occasional strong language and mild sexual content.
Jane Cleo (JC) had always loved Brady, but Brady only had eyes for her sister, Liz. While he was at war in Afghanistan and engaged to Liz...Liz sent him a Dear John letter. Brady got there just in time to crash the wedding but made no effort to stop it.
JC took him home because he was drunk and the men of the wedding party were not happy he was there at the wedding or the reception. When she got him home, Brady made advances and she let him. Three months have passed, Brady is still drunk and JC is pregnant with his child. Now she has to tell him.
Brady is also dealing with PTSD and an injured knee.
Although the story is new and refreshing, I didn't care for the "I'll accept second place" attitude of JC. She did stand up to him a few times throughout the story and gave it impact. A happily ever after romance for the holidays.
